New Jersey American Water Pipe Work Will Impact Holmdel Traffic

Upgrades to water delivery pipes by New Jersey American Water will impact traffic on Route 520 from Holmdel to Red Bank, beginning April 1.

The project will require overnight road closures of Swimming River Road between Newman Springs in Middletown and Route 537 in Colts Neck.

Work is scheduled between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., and is expected to be completed by April 6.

This is the second phase of a road improvement project, which began March 15 at intersections along the road. Improvements included updated crosswalks to make traffic signals more easily accessible to pedestrians.

On April 8, Monmouth County will begin replacing bridge decks over Swimming River between the Parkway and Hance Avenue. The bridge will remain open, but traffic will be reduced to one lane with a 25 mph speed limit.

The project will completely replace concrete decks and bridge railings. 

“Deterioration of the bridge surface over the past four decades has significantly advanced to the point that the entire deck needs to be replaced in their entirety, and the work that will be completed under this contract will bring this bridge into compliance with current standards and will extend its life by an additional 30 to 40 years,” Freeholder Tom Arnone said in a news release.

A timeline for the bridge project was not provided.
