Tesla Hits Car, Building As Driver Suffers Medical Episode In Holmdel: Police

The drivers of both cars were injured in the crash, police said.

HOLMDEL, NJ — Two people were taken to the hospital Saturday after a Tesla hit another car and crashed into IL Mercato on Main Street, Holmdel Police said.

On Saturday at 10:30 a.m., police responded to the crash on Main Street (Route 520) near Holmdel Road.

According to police, a Tesla was traveling east on Main Street when it crossed the center line and hit a Honda Accord that was traveling west.

From there, police said the Tesla continued across the westbound lane and hit IL Mercato, a food catering business, on 37 Main Street.

The driver of the Tesla suffered a medical emergency just before the crash, police said, and both drivers were transported to Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel for non-life-threatening injuries.

Following the accident, police said IL Mercato was temporarily closed by the Township Construction Official for a structural evaluation.

"The IL Mercato family is counting our blessings this morning," the business said in a Facebook post on Saturday. "Thankfully no one was seriously injured in the accident that took place in front of our store."
