HOLMDEL, NJ — Just something to keep in mind: On Tuesday, March 19, there may be delays or detours on Bell Laboratories Road near the Middletown Road entrance for filming scenes for the series "Severance," which uses the impressive corporate building for Bell Works as a location, the township says.

Mayor Rocco Impreveduto confirmed the Apple TV+ series "Severance" is back at the location where it had filmed previously.

Access to the building will not be restricted while filming is taking place at the Building 3 entrance, says Township Administrator Jay Delaney. During actual filming, visitors and employees will be asked to use the Building 2 entrance, he said.

A few other pointers, according to Delaney:

  • Tuesday, March 19, beginning at approximately 8 a.m., filming is in the center atrium.
  • Later in the day on Tuesday there will be filming in the parking lot of Building 3 and at the eastern entrance to the building, which may cause short delays for customers while live filming is taking place in the morning and into the afternoon.
  • There are sections of Lots 2 and 3 that will be closed from Monday evening through the conclusion of filming on Tuesday evening.

According to online information, "Severance" is about a fictional corporation in which a "severance" program separates employees' non-work memories from work memories. The well-received series premiered on Apple TV+ on Feb. 18, 2022, and received multiple Emmy nominations, winning in two categories. In April 2022, the series was renewed for a second season.

The Bell Works architecture is rightly described as "iconic."

Now a "metroburb" in Holmdel, it was the former corporate site of Bell Labs, designed by Eero Saarinen. Now it hosts many new corporations, retail sites and the township library, among dining destinations and other services.

The building is known for its striking architecture and size, in the middle of an open suburban setting.

Constructed between 1959 and 1962, the complex was one of the final projects of the Finnish-American architect Saarinen before his death in 1961, according to internet sources.
