HAZLET, NJ — If we're in for a gloomy weekend, one place to consider taking the kids is the Urban Air Adventure Park - now open at Hazlet Town Center.

Urban Air, whose motto is "Where Fun Takes Flight," opened Dec. 9, says Gregg Medvin, executive vice president of Pierson Commercial Real Estate, the shopping center's broker, and it's another major attraction part of a re-imagined Hazlet Town Center.

You can go to the Urban Air website for latest information on hours and other contact information.

Here are some of the stats on the Hazlet Urban Air franchise, according to Medvin:

  • Occupies former Kmart and Pathmark stores at Hazlet Town Center.
  • Has a total of 40,000 square feet, with eight rooms for parties and corporate events.
  • Features Spin Zone and Flip Zone bumper cars; Sky Rider indoor zip line; ropes and climbing walls; laser tag; virtual reality and trampolines.
  • Includes a café serving, among other things, pizza and soft drinks.

There are more changes on the way to Hazlet Town Center, Medvin said in an update on the center.

A Wawa has a projected opening in summer 2024. The convenience store and fuel area is expected to begin construction within the center’s parking lot closest to Route 35 in January.

TKK Fried Chicken is coming soon. A joint 1,250-square-foot location with Kung Fu Tea (between AT&T Wireless and the now-under-construction KPot Korean BBQ & Hot Pot). It will offer fried chicken, chicken tenders, chicken sandwiches and wings and Kwa Kwa Bao, a dish made with sticky rice, shitake mushrooms and pork, he said.

And recently, a UPS Store and Underground Nutrition opened.

Parking field construction has also begun, with repaving and traffic flow reconfiguration, Medvin said.

Located at the intersection of Route 35 and Bethany Road, the shopping center was acquired as a joint venture between Onyx Equities LLC and Siguler Guff & Co. in 2016. Since its acquisition, it has been "rebranded" as Hazlet Town Center and has undergone an extensive five-year renovation, owners said in an update in January 2023.

Completed enhancements included facade renovations, the addition of new landscaped green space, lighting modernization, and new signage, they said. The center initially brought in Aldi and Burlington stores as the center’s anchor tenants, Medvin said in last year's update.
