Elderly Man Killed In Head-On Collision Thursday: Cops

Ridgewood man appeared to have suffered medical emergency while driving in Sparta, police report.

SPARTA TWP., N.J. – A head-on collision on Sparta Avenue Thursday afternoon resulted in one motorist injured and another killed, Sparta Township Police Sgt. Dennis Proctor announced.

At 2:12 p.m. Sparta police were dispatched to Sparta Avenue in the area of Fu’s Chinese restaurant for a report of a head-on crash with injuries, Proctor said.

Police found a 1999 Chevy SUV had crossed the double-yellow lines when the driver, Henry Clark, 78, of Ridgewood, suffered a medical emergency behind the wheel, Proctor said.

His car struck a 2007 Saturn operated by Kristine Fullman of Newton. Clark was taken to Newton Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Fullman was taken to the same hospital and treated for minor injuries and was later released.

Sparta Avenue was closed for more than two and-a-half hours for an accident investigation.
