Hopatcong Runners Start Season with Medals

Just because Hopatcong High School doesn’t have an official winter track team doesn’t mean Hopatcong’s runners are on vacation.

Running for the Polar Bears Track Club out of Fredon, NJ, under the direction of coach Bruce Wask, three of Hopatcong’s own came home with hardware for their efforts in the first meet of the season at the annual East Stroudsburg Warrior Classic Friday night.
Senior Dylan Capwell, Hopatcong’s top middle-distance star and NJ Meet of Champions medalist, held off a late charge to the finish line to place first in the 400m dash in a hand time of 52.0.

Courtney Macaluso, also a senior and Group 2 finalist in the 100m last spring, took home gold in the 200m, cruising to victory with a time of 26.9. She also sprinted to a new personal best in the 55m, securing a silver medal with a second place time of 7.3.
Jade Webster, a member of the junior class at Hopatcong High School, took second place in her flight in the shot put and won her heat of the 55m in a time of 8.3.
All three will compete for Hopatcong High School as individuals at the state meets in February.
