Hopatcong, Sparta Get Several Inches Of Snow As Storm Clears Up

Here are the storm's snowfall totals and the forecast ahead.

HOPATCONG, NJ — The brunt of the storm passed through the Hopatcong and Sparta areas overnight, leaving several inches of snow on the ground.

As preliminary snowfall totals stand, weather officials say Sussex County may have received less snow than surrounding areas.

Here’s what the National Weather Service has reported for snowfall totals as of 1 p.m. for Sussex County:

Stockholm - 4.0 inches at 8:45 a.m.
Sparta Twp - 3.5 inches at 7:05 a.m.
Hopatcong - 3.5 inches at 8:55 a.m.
Newton - 3 inches at 8:20 a.m.
Hardyston Twp - 2.9 inches at 7:45 a.m.
Highland Lakes - 2.5 inches at 7:20 a.m.
Lafayette Twp - 2.5 inches at 8:17 a.m.
Highland Lakes - 2.4 inches at 6:20 a.m.
Wantage Twp - 2.1 inches at 6:41 a.m.
Sussex - 2 inches at 7 a.m.
Wantage Twp -2.0 inches at 8:30 a.m.
Montague Twp - 1.7 inches at 7 a.m.
Branchville - 1.5 inches at 7:50 a.m.

The highest-reported snowfall totals came from South Jersey, where parts of Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties saw 6 inches.

Here's the National Weather Service's forecast for the Hopatcong and Sparta areas as of 11 a.m. Friday through Sunday:

Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 30. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 14. Northwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 30. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the afternoon.
Saturday Night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 20. Light south wind becoming southwest 5 to 10 mph in the evening.
Sunday: A chance of freezing rain and sleet before 1pm, then rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 36. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Little or no sleet accumulation expected.
Sunday Night: A chance of rain, mixing with snow after 10pm, then gradually ending. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 22. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
