Downed Pole In Hopatcong Took Out Power, Dismissed Schools Early
A warming station was opened at 11 a.m. for residents who lost power, after a pole fell on Brooklyn Mountain Road on Monday night.
HOPATCONG, NJ — For most of the more than 2,000 Hopatcong residents who were without power because of a downed pole on Brooklyn Mountain Road Monday night because of high winds, power was restored by 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
On Tuesday at about 10 a.m., First Energy reported that about 1,600 JCP&L customers in Hopatcong remained without power, that number whittled down to less than 10 as night fell on Tuesday.

During the day on Tuesday, Hopatcong residents who needed a place to warm up, were able to do so by 11 a.m., with a Nixle alert blasted out in the morning to residents about the opening of the firehouse on Hopatchung Road as a warming station, which closed down at about 5 p.m.

The Hopatcong Borough Schools called for early dismissals at all of the schools, posted on the district's website, because of the outage, with no afternoon preschool or activities.
On Wednesday, New Jersey could see its first snowstorm, with the potential of up to an inch of snow expected in some parts of the state.

According to the National Weather Service forecast for the Hopatcong and Sparta areas into Wednesday morning, there’s a chance of snow after 4 a.m., with temperatures expected to plunge to 27 degrees. The snow may stick around throughout the day on Wednesday and leave behind up to a half-inch accumulation in the Sussex County area.
