Witnesses Tell Police A Jet Ski 'Exploded' And Tossed Its Operator Into Lake Hopatcong
New Jersey's State Police Marine Unit is investigating the incident that happened in Byram Cove this past Sunday evening.
HOPATCONG, NJ — Unnamed bystanders have told officials that they saw a jet ski “explode” as a person was riding on it this past Sunday.
Lt. Michael O’Shea, spokesperson for the Hopatcong Police Department, said on Sunday at about 7:20 p.m., responding officers headed to the lake’s Byram Cove after the department received calls that a boat had combusted.
Instead when officers arrived, they worked with the New Jersey State Police Marine Unit after finding an unidentified and hurt jet skier in the water.

O’Shea said both Hopatcong’s Ambulance Squad and Fire Department responded to the call, with the jet skier taken to Morristown Medical Center.
As of Tuesday, O’Shea said the department didn’t have an update on the jet skier’s condition, but said the State Police Marine Unit is investigating the incident.
