Loose NJ Pitbull Shot In The Head On Thanksgiving Day, Cops Say

The dog's owner said that Boe was not attacking or biting anyone at the time of the shooting.

SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ — A dog was shot and killed by a neighbor on Thanksgiving after it had gotten loose in Sussex County, officials said.

On Thanksgiving, around 3 p.m., state police were called near a home on Mudtown Road in Wantage Township on reports of a shooting.

Authorities discovered that a dog had been shot in the area, and it was rushed to a nearby veterinarian, where it died, police said.

The dog’s owner, Carrie Anne Conklin, says her neighbor shot the dog in the head with a gun after it had gotten loose.

Conklin added that the dog, named Boe, did not attack or bite anyone before he was shot.

“Accidents happen, dogs get loose. The fact that my neighbor thought it was appropriate to shoot him in the head, is disturbing,” Conklin posted. “There was absolutely no reason for this to happen. The man went inside, purposefully came back outside to shoot and kill him when he was NOT IN HIS YARD.”

Conklin added that Boe may have been chasing a horse when he was shot.

No other injuries were reported.

The shooting is still under investigation, authorities said.
