Nor'easter Leaves Around 4 Inches Of Rain In Sussex County

The National Weather Service predicts a possibility of up to another inch or two of rain by the weekend.

SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ — On par with the initial predictions of the storm, the Nor’easter that drenched the Sussex County area on Monday night and throughout Tuesday dropped around four inches of rainfall.

Showers could possibly return on Friday, according to the National Weather Service, with up to another inch or two of rain coming.

New Jersey’s Department of Environmental Protection’s Water Monitoring and Standards tracked the rainfall totals near Hopatcong and Sparta at the monitoring station by the Musconetcong River finding 3.61 inches in the storm's 48 hours, 1.11 inches of rain having fallen over its final 24 hours.

At another nearby monitoring station at the Wallkill River by Sparta, the rainfall measured within the 48 hours of the storm showed 3.73 inches of rain, 1.21 inches over its last 24 hours.

For Thursday, the National Weather Service forecasts temperatures in Hopatcong and Sparta are expected to rise to about 59 degrees, under mostly sunny skies and winds at 5 mph, after a plunge overnight to 42.

On Thursday night, the National Weather Service forecasts temperatures to fall back to 42, the winds also remaining calm at 5 mph.

On Friday, showers could return after 2 p.m., under mostly cloudy skies, a high of 53 for Hopatcong and 55 for Sparta predicted, with showers throughout the day potentially dropping up to another inch of rainfall by Friday night, along with wind gusts up to 20 mph, with a low of about 47 degrees overnight.

For Halloween weekend, more showers may fall on Saturday with a high of 58 degrees and Saturday overnight, a possibility of rain and low of 48, before temperatures may rise on Sunday for trick-or-treating back to a high of 58 degrees, under mostly cloudy skies.
