Police Log: False Information Among Recent Complaints In Sparta

Man gives false information to police officer when pulled over.

On September 4, at approximately 11:40 AM, a Sparta police officer noticed a Volkswagon make a turn without signaling. The officer stopped the vehicle and asked the driver for identification. The driver said he didn't have his ID, but provided a name and a date of birth instead. The officer tried to look up the information but found nothing. Upon further investigation, the officer determined the identity of the driver, a 30-year-old from Scranton, Pennsylvania, who had given false information as a result of his driving with a suspended license. The driver was placed under arrest criminally charged with Hindering Apprehension By Providing False Information To A Law Enforcement Officer. He was also given a ticket for Failure To Signal Turn, Driving While Suspended, and Failure To Provide A Driver’s License. He was released pending a court date.
