Sparta Named Among Safest Towns In New Jersey
Data analysis shows incredibly low overall score for Sussex County town.

SPARTA TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Sparta Township with the famed Lake Mohawk is a bucolic setting for residents to behold.
Now it can add another notch to its belt after being named the fifth safest municipality in New Jersey by creditdonkey.com.
A report released this week by creditdonkey.com, which analyzed the Uniform Crime Report data for 2014 (the last full year statistics were available) for the 50 safest towns in the Garden State put Sparta Township at number five.

The study broke the scoring down into four categories:
- Violent crime per 1,000 residents
- Robbery per 1,000 residents
- Property crime per 1,000 residents
- Burglary per 1,000 residents
The website then formulated a scoring method combining the categories. The lower the score, the higher the ranking. Sparta Township had a score of 1.290.

Only towns with populations over 10,000 residents were analyzed.
The website also explained that not all towns submit the crime data to the FBI, which is self-reported by each municipality.
