Sussex County Organizations Could See More Funding Soon
Hopatcong Borough may receive $800,000 and Stanhope Borough, $250,000 in federal funding, for water system upgrades.
SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ — The Borough of Hopatcong may receive $800,000 and Stanhope Borough $250,000 in future funding if projects just receiving funding approval from the House Appropriations Committee for fiscal year 2022 make it past the full committee and House, as well as the U.S. Senate.
Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill’s office announced on Tuesday that 10 projects she’d submitted to the Appropriations Committee for funding in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District, have made it to the next step.
In Sussex County, those projects include $800,000 for water system upgrades for the Borough of Hopatcong and $250,000 to replace water mains in the Borough of Stanhope.

Sherrill said all the projects came across her desk per requests from municipalities and non-profit groups within her district.
“I’m thrilled that all 10 of the projects I submitted to the House Appropriations Committee received funding approval in the FY22 funding bills,” Sherrill said. “If enacted, this potential funding could be the difference that gets them [the groups that made requests] across the finish line.”

Should funds come through for the Borough of Hopatcong, they will be applied to install above ground vessels with granular activated carbon or ion exchange materials at water wells, for Hopatcong’s water system.
If Stanhope Borough is given funding, 70-year-old water mains will be replaced with larger, more modern mains, which are expected to improve Stanhope’s water system overall.
Other projects within District 11 that Sherrill received funding approval for are:
- Morris Habitat for Humanity - $3 million requested and approved
- United Way of Northern New Jersey - $3.1 million requested and $1.1 million approved
