Prostitution, Human Trafficking Claims Closes North Jersey Spa

A federal and local investigation led to the business being shuttered, according to officials.

BYRAM, NJ — The Byram Spa, 13 Route 206, was closed down by Township officials after it was investigated for human trafficking infractions and presumably engaging in prostitution behind its doors, according to authorities.

The Byram Township Police Department reported on Thursday morning that the department had wrapped up its investigation in June with Homeland Security Investigations in Newark, that started with human trafficking claims about Byram Spa.

The Google listing for the business near the Stanhope border, which was located at the far end of a small shopping plaza next to Classic Bagel & Deli, categorized it as “permanently closed,” as of Thursday.
Police wrote in a news release that the joint probe helped uncover that the spa was “operating an unapproved and illegal massage establishment, most likely used for prostitution.”

The shopping plaza’s owner, the police department indicated, “was cooperative and helpful throughout the investigation.”
