Howell Council Votes Against Short-Term Rentals

The Howell Council passed an ordinance on Tuesday banning short-term rentals in town.

HOWELL, NJ — Homeowners in Howell will no longer be able to rent out their houses for small time periods of time on Airbnb.

In a meeting on Tuesday, the Howell Council passed an ordinance banning short-term rentals.

The ordinance said that no rental facility, rental unit, dwelling or residential structure may be rented or leased for less than 90 days at a time.

Amenities, features or accessories associated with the house are also barred from being rented out. They include things like swimming pools, pool cabanas, hot tubs, decks, patios and yards.

Advertising of short-term rental is likewise prohibited. Under the ordinance, anyone in violation of these rules will be subject to a penalty.
