Howell Public Schools Hosting Drug Forum

Event to include law enforcement officials and other guest speakers.

The Howell Public Schools will hold a special forum next week to address questions residents may have about drug issues which have become prominent in districts throughout the state.

The forum will be held on Wednesday January 15 at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria of Middle School North. The event will feature people from the law enforcement community as well as guest speakers who will address the drug abuse problem in the county, how to recognize signs and symptoms of drug use and abuse and how to get help.

District SCA Jeanna Corrigan said in an email sent home to parents that an estimated 8.9 million people 12-years-old and under used drugs other than marijuana in 2012. In one year, heroin deaths of people between the ages of 18 and 25 rose 24 percent. “Statistics such as these are alarming and warrant our immediate attention to dangers of drug use and abuse,” she said.

The forum is meant for community members, parents and their children over the age of 10 and any other adults who want to learn about what she called a “growing epidemic.”
