The township on Friday, in a Facebook post, explained more about why the popular event had to be cancelled and was not rescheduled:
"Howell Township is aware residents are upset Howell Day & Green Fair has been canceled for 2023. We pride ourselves in Howell Day & Green Fair being a well-run and organized large-scale community event. Unfortunately, rain dates never produce the same turnout as the originally scheduled date," the statement read in part.

"Ultimately, we all wish Howell Day & Green Fair was possible to host on Saturday, Sept. 23. With the current forecasted weather, the best decision was to cancel the event for 2023.
"Howell Township would like to invite you to the next community event on Thursday, Oct. 26, for Trunk or Treat at Soldier Memorial Park. We are excited to partner this year with Howell Police, Howell PBA, and Howell PAL," the post said.
According to the National Weather Service, rain is expected Saturday, heavy at times. With a high near 67 degrees, it will also be breezy, with a northeast wind around 25 mph and gusts as high as 40 mph.
The township noted that many vendors already were booked for other dates, and Soldier Field, where the event was to take place, also has restrictions on availability.
Given the forecast, a lot of the attractions of the fair could have faced some problems. Planned were live music, free inflatable and mechanical rides, touch-a-truck demonstrations and fireworks. The fair also gives residents a chance to learn about the environmental groups in town and get advice from experts.
"We appreciate everyone who put in their time and effort over the past year from the departments, vendors, residents and families. We look forward to making our current events bigger and better and adding new and exciting events for the community," the township said in its announcement.
