Howell Pedestrian, Crossing Route 9, Fatally Struck By Car

Howell, county prosecutor's office are investigating the death of a pedestrian Sunday night on Route 9 south.

HOWELL, NJ — A pedestrian died Sunday night after being struck by a car on Route 9 south and Strickland Road, police said.

At about 7:51 p.m. on Sept. 10, a Honda Civic operated by a Howell resident was traveling southbound on Route 9 in the area of Strickland Road when the car struck another Howell resident who was crossing Route 9 south, from west to east, according to police.

The pedestrian was taken to CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, police said. The driver of the Honda Civic was uninjured in the crash, but was taken to an area hospital for evaluation.

The identities of the victim and the driver were not released by authorities.

The incident remains under investigation by the Howell Township Police Department, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team.
