Water Main Installation Underway In Candlewood Section Of Howell
The New Jersey American Water project is divided into three phases and is anticipated to be completed in the spring.
HOWELL, NJ — A New Jersey American Water main replacement project is continuing in Howell, and authorities say there are three phases to the work in the Candlewood development.
The work installing new mains and service connections is being done primarily during the day, Mondays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with some exceptions as noted below.
The first phase, which began Monday and anticipated to last five weeks, is work along South Longview Road, Livingston Drive, and a small portion of Salem Hill Road between Route 9 and South Longview Road.

The Salem Hill Road portion will be completed overnight, authorities said.
Phase 2 is anticipated to begin March 10 and will replace water main along Salem Hill Road between Chestnut Hill Road and Newport Drive.

Phase 3 is expected to begin in April and will include North and South Westfield roads, a portion of Old Bridge Drive, and a portion of Sylvan Boulevard. This work is scheduled to begin in April.
The small portion of Old Bridge Drive between South Westfield Road and Markwood Drive will be completed at night to avoid traffic disruptions.
Sylvan Boulevard will be completed during the school spring break.
Schools have been notified of the work and will have access through the work zone at all times, officials said. New Jersey American Water was supposed to notify all residents in the construction area.
The affected roads are expected to be repaved in the summer and fall, officials said.
