Berkshire Valley Rd. Bridge Closed Through Weekend

The Berkshire Valley Road Bridge t the Jefferson-West Milford line has been closed, according to Jefferson Police.

“During an inspection it was found that there was damage from a previous storm,” said Jefferson police captain Eric Wilsusen.

The damage created a cavity in the road that is about 15 feet long and six feet deep, according to Morris County Public Works director Stephen Hammond. He said that an embankment adjacent to the bridge is eroded.

A detour has been put into place that will take drivers over Chamberlain Road to Cozy Lake Road, according to Hammond.

Emergency work has been started, and will continue at 6 a.m. on Friday. The county hopes to have the bridge reopened by Sunday or Monday.
