Decision Day: Jefferson Twp. Election Survival Guide

Election day is Tuesday and Patch wants to make sure you are ready to cast your votes on the state, county and local level.

New Jersey's top spot is up for grabs as Republican Chris Christie takes on Democrat Barbara Buono in his quest to retain the governor's job.

The Republican state legislative team from the 26th District is facing ballot challengers from the Democratic Party. Incumbent Sen. Joseph Pennachio faces Democrat Avery Ann Hart. General Assembly members BettyLou DeCroce and Jay Webber vie against Elliot Isibor and Joseph Raich.

On the county level, Repubican Sheriff Edward Rochford is running against Democrat Mark Dombrowski.

County Clerk Joan Bramhall is stepping down from her post, so there will be new blood in the clerk's office, either Republican Ann F. Grossi or Democrat Terry O'Connor Redwine.  

There will be at least new member on the Morris County Chosen Board of Freeholders after the election, as the body has three openings and only two incumbents, GOP members Doug Cabana and Tom Mastrangelo, seeking re-election this year. Republican Kathy DeFillippo  and Democratic Party members Donald Cresitello, Roger L. Holman and Thomas J. Moran are also on the ballot.

There are no municipal races contested in Jefferson this year.

The town's one nonpolitical race, for three seats on the Jeffertown Township Board of Education, doesn't offer much in the way of suspense: There are three available seats, and the three people running for them are the incumbents, Matthew F. Millar, Edward Quigley and Danielle M. Rowan.

Tuesday's election also will offer voters an opportunity to weigh in on two ballot questions. One asks whether the state constitution should be amended to allow veterans' groups to use games of chance as a means of raising funds. The second asks whether the constitution should be altered to set a statewide minimum wage rate of at least $8.25 per hour with annual increases to keep up with the cost of living. 

Polling places will be open from 6 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday.
