Ollo’s mother Maura read a statement on behalf of the family.

β€œWhen we first got that call, and we weren’t sure what had happened to Amelia, or if she was even alive, my heart skipped a beat,” Maura Ollo said.

The Ollos thanked the rescue workers who were on hand to help Amelia, noting that had it not been for their help, the outcome of the accident may have been very different.

β€œShort of delivering flowers and candy to each rescue worker personally, which would have been tough, we weren’t sure what to do to show our appreciation,” said Mike Ollo, Amelia’s father. β€œSo what we’ve decided to do on behalf of the rescue squad is to donate a year of respite care at the Department for Persons With Disabilities.”

Scott Milliken, director of the DPD, along with John, a resident, was on hand to accept the Ollos’ offer of care.

Several members of the Jefferson Rescue Squad, including chief Kathy Jacoby, were also in attendance.
