We are smack dab in the middle of Fire Safety Week 2011. Itβs a week that does just what the name implies, reinforces fire prevention and safety. Here, from the National Fire Protection Association, are some facts you should know and tips to keep you and your home safe.
- Most home fires start in the kitchen, between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m. Food is the most commonly ignited item in a home fire.
- You should have working smoke alarms on every level of the home, inside of each bedroom and outside of each sleeping area.
- Smoke alarm units should be replaced every 10 years.
- You and family members should practice your home fire drill escape route twice a year. And you should have two escape routes planned from each bedroom.
- For more information, you should attend Jefferson Fire Company No. 2βs on Rt. 15 on Wednesday starting at 6:30 p.m.
