Hearts and Hands Needs Your Heart and Hands

Nonprofit looking for assistance from community.

Hearts and Hands is a non-profit charity in Jefferson Township that helps people in town in need. And now the charity itself is in need.

The 20-year-old organization gives a scholarship to a graduating Jefferson Township high school senior each year and runs the Wish Tree during each holiday season, where children in need can express their wishes for a holiday gift.

β€œWe also try to help people who are in desperate need with things like the oil or electric bill,” said Lucille Flatt, a Hearts and Hands member.

But now the organization needs assistance in the form of both members and money.

β€œWe run a designer purse party and a spaghetti dinner during the year, but we also send letters out to businesses to solicit donations,” Flatt said. β€œThat hasn’t been going as well as we’d hope right now.”

The membership, including Flatt, Gerri Covello and Lynn Gonzalez, sponsored a designer purse party on Tuesday night at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church.

Hearts and Hands meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Presbyterian Church on Berkshire Valley Road.
