Jefferson Man Accused of Gutting Bank-Owned Home for Scrap Metal

Karl Cilurso is being held on $20,000 bail on burglary and criminal mischief charges.

A Jefferson man is accused of breaking into a bank-owned home on Mason Street where he once lived and stealing scrap metal, police said.

Capt. Eric Wilsusen said officers were looking into a trespassing report at a bank-owned home at about 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 29 when they found 41-year-old Karl Cilurso had broken into the structure and was gutting the building for scrap metal.

Wilsusen told Patch that the Mason Street building was once a place Cilurso called home.

Cilurso was detained and arrested under a warrant by Judge Gerald Smith of Rockaway for burglary, theft and criminal mischief. Smith set bail at $20,000 with no 10 percent option.
