Jefferson Police to Target Speeders Through the Summer

Operation Slow Down to focus on speeders on residential roads.

The Jefferson Township Police Department will be conducting Operation β€œSlow Down,” targeting speeding vehicles in the township's residential neighborhoods.

Β The operation started May 1Β and will go through Sept. 30. The operation will happen primarily on the weekends and other high traffic times. Based on manpower and call loads, a particular secondary roadway will be selected for enforcement throughout the community and the primary focus of the operation will be on speeding vehicles.

Β The number one quality of life complaint the department receives is speeding vehicles in residential neighborhoods, police said.

Β Jefferson Township is 42 square miles and has over 180 miles of roadways within its borders. Β 

Β Details will be scheduled based on many different factors, including but not limited to traffic surveys, past and current complaints from residents as well as the officers' experiences and observations.

Β Motorists are advised to always be aware of their vehicle speed and the posted speed limits while operating their vehicles. New Jersey law states that the speed limit in residential areas is 25 mph unless otherwise posted.
