JTHS Grad Wildermuth Wins Organization's Scholarship

Graduate works with special needs citizens at Department for Persons With Disabilities.

Nicole Sidor Wildermuth, a recent graduate from Jefferson Township High School, was awarded the first annual Department for Persons With Disabilities (DPD) Scholarship at the JTHS Awards Ceremony.

Wildermuth shadowed a teacher of the multiply disabled class as her senior project.

"Nicole has been deeply affected by the challenges and joys of working with students with special needs," said Karl Mundi, principal of Jefferson High School.

Wildermuth is also one of the DPD’s newest "People Need Friends" volunteers and will be volunteering at the Alexander House.

Shortly after receiving the award Wildermuth applied to become a volunteer at a DPD group home.

"It is important for young people like Nicole to learn about and to become involved with the DPD to inspire others and dispel myths about people with disabilities. We are happy to welcome her as part of the DPD family," said DPD development director Chris Brancato.
