Lake Hopatcong July 4th Fireworks: 2019 Guide

The fireworks over the lake are still on this year, despite the harmful algae bloom advisory.

LAKE HOPATCONG, NJ — Looking for a different take on 4th of July weekend fireworks? The annual Lake Hopatcong fireworks are back for 2019 holiday.

Sponsored by the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club, the Friday, June 28 fireworks are visible to everyone on the lake (the rain date is July 7). The Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club confirmed to Patch that the fireworks are still on despite the harmful algae bloom advisory.

The fireworks usually begin at 9:15 p.m., and are sent off from a barge in the lake. An online commenter recommended parking your boat in the lake, or finding a lakeside venue to watch from.

Because of a lake-wide harmful algae bloom, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club are urging all boaters and watchers to avoid touching the water at all. Read More: All Of Lake Hopatcong Closed To Swimming Due To Algae
