Mayor, Council Support Operation Slow Down
Police initiative designed to deter speeding.

The Jefferson Township police department has started the initiative to deter speeding, particularly through residential areas of the township.Β
"It's not just about writing tickets, it's about education," Felter said during the town council meeting on Wednesday night.

Felter said that the initiative would include not only speeding, but cell phone use. The police will also set up "one or two aggressive driving task forces along Route 15.
"We really want to get people's attention with this," Felter said. "You wouldn't want people speeding through your neighborhood, so you shouldn't speed through theirs either."

Felter noted that people need to take adequate time to get where they are going, and not be overly concerned if they are a few minutes late.
"If you're five minutes late getting to a baseball game, so be it," he said. "Is being on time worth possibly hurting or killing someone?"
