Morris County Hit-And-Run Suspect Apprehended, Police Thank Locals For Assistance
Police credited local businesses and residents for the investigation's success.
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A Lake Hopatcong resident who police believe to be responsible for a recent hit-and-run was apprehended on Thursday.
Oxana A. Prokofyeva, 44, was arrested following an investigation into a hit-and-run incident that injured two pedestrians on June 28.

At around 9:45 p.m. on June 28, Jefferson Township Police responded to a hit-and-run on Brady Road in Lake Hopatcong, where they found a man and woman who had been hit by a car.
Both victims, whose identities have not been released, were found in the driveway of 64 Brady Road. The man, 43, was brought to the hospital for “serious injuries,” and the woman, 42, was treated on the scene for minor injuries.

The driver had fled the scene following the incident, police said.
According to Jefferson Police, the “thorough investigation” consisted of watching hours of surveillance footage in an effort to identify the car and its driver. The effort proved fruitful, leading to the arrest of Prokofyeva.
Prokofyeva is charged with leaving the scene of a motor accident resulting in serious bodily injury, tampering with evidence, hindering apprehension, along with multiple motor vehicle offenses. The suspect was taken to the Morris County Correctional Facility following the arrest.
“We would not have been able to complete this investigation without the help and support of the great business owners and residents of Jefferson Township who assisted us with providing video,” a Jefferson Police statement read. “We would like to thank our fellow law enforcement partners, the Morris County Sheriff’s Dept. and the Morris County Prosecutor's Office for their assistance in this investigation.”
