Morris County Officer Saves Life With Narcan: Police

Officer Christopher Smolt assisted a man who had overdosed on heroin, police said.

JEFFERSON, NJ - Officer Christopher Smolt assisted a man who had overdosed on heroin last Friday, according to the Jefferson Township Police Department.

According to authorities, Smolt responded to the report of an unconscious male victim of a suspected heroin overdose and administered Narcan and oxygen. A team of Milton First Aid Squad members also responded and treated the victim, police said. The victim was then transported to St. Clare’s Denville and is expected to make a full recovery. A hypodermic needle was recovered at the scene, police said.

At the hospital the victim was supplied with the Morris County resources related to peer recovery specialists. All responders wore the proper personal protective equipment in response to COVID-19 prevention and protection, police said.

Authorities are reminding residents that those having substance abuse or mental health issues can obtain help if they need it.
