Oak Ridge Resident Pleads Guilty to DWI, Eluding Charges in Newton

Christopher Gibney allegedly was driving under the influence and attempted to flee after being pulled over in Hardyston, police said.

A Jefferson TownshipΒ man pleaded guilty to attempting to elude police after he was pulled over for alleged intoxication, according toΒ Sussex County Prosecutor David J. Weaver.

Christopher Gibney, 48, of Oak Ridge,Β appeared in state Superior Court in Newton Nov. 12 and admitted toΒ third-degree eluding, driving on aΒ suspended license and driving while intoxicated.

Last March 30, police said Gibney, who allegedly wasΒ under the influenceΒ and had a suspended driver's license,Β was pulled over by police officersΒ in Hardyston and then made an attempt to flee.Β

Gibney is expected to be sentenced by Superior Court JudgeΒ Thomas J. Critchley onΒ Dec. 20.
