
A head-on collision on Weldon Road caused injuries and a road closure on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Robert Welker, 35 of Jefferson operating a 2005 Nissan pickup, was traveling east on Weldon Road. Richard Hoentz, 49 of Jefferson was traveling west operating a 2004 Buick and crossed over double yellow line, striking Welder head on, according to police. Hoentz was the most seriously injured, police said, adding that it took almost 45 minutes to get him out of car.
Both drivers had to be extricated using the jaws of life, police said. Welker, with moderate injuries, was transported to Morristown Medical Center via ambulance. Hoentz, with more serious injuries, was transported to Morristown Medical Center via medevac helicopter, police said.

Fire companies 1 and 2, along with emergency personnel from Mt. Arlington and West Milford responded to scene.
Police said that no determination had been made as to why Hoentz crossed over the line, and that the accident is still under investigation.
