Resident Awarded for Hall of Fame Status and Character

Jefferson Township resident Richard Norris was inducted into the Isshinryu (karate) Hall of Fame, and the township recognized his achievement at Wednesday night’s council meeting. Norris also received the Character Counts award for exemplifying the six pillars of character taught in the Jefferson school system: trustiworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.

The 52-year Jefferson resident has taught Isshinryu karate for many years, and has been a coach of various sports for the past 15 years.

“Rich has made it his primary responsibility to teach Isshinryu karate to our local residents and neighboring towns. He gives back to the community by teaching his students to value and protect themselves,” the proclamation read.
