Both varsity and JV defeat Hopatcong.

The Jefferson Falcons boys’ soccer team helped raise more than $300 for Stop the Clot during its game against Hopatcong High on Tuesday night—and both the varsity and junior varsity team won their games.

The varsity team defeated Hopatcong 1-0 behind Dylan Miller’s lone goal about 20 minutes into the second half of play.

The junior varsity team won 5-4, highlighted by Ricky Bosler’s three goals.

The team celebrated senior night, honoring senior players and their parents prior to the start of the varsity contest. The senior boys chose a charity to receive a donation of funds raised at the game. They chose Stop the Clot in honor of Steve Leyden, father of Falcon player Nick Leyden. Steve Leyden died in May. He suffered from blood clots.

“Everyone has been so generous to us, so we chose this charity to help bring awareness to the issue of blood clots,” Marlene Leyden, Steve’s widow, said.
