Soccer Team Set to Honor Seniors, Help Charity

The Jefferson Falcons boys’ soccer team will honor their own on Tuesday night, in more ways than one.

It’s senior night for the players, where the seniors and their parents are honored for their years of playing time in the high school soccer program. In addition, a yearly tradition will also remember one player’s father.

Each year on senior night, the senior boys choose a charity to which all of the game’s proceeds will be donated. This year, the boys originally chose to give the money to the Leyden family. Junior Nick Leyden’s father, Stephen, died last spring. However, Leyden’s widow, Marlene, asked that the money be donated to The National Blood Clot Alliance's Stop the Clot, an organization that provides education and awareness about blood clots.

“Everyone in the town has been so generous to us since Steve died,” Marlene Leyden said. “We thought it would be a good thing for people to be more aware of blood clots and how dangerous they can be, so we chose Stop the Clot,” she said.

You can watch the Falcons take on Hopatcong High on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for students and seniors. All admission, plus any profit from the snack stand, will go to Stop the Clot.
