Teachers' Convention Continues, Library Events to Occupy Your Student on a Day Off

Your daily planner for Jefferson Township includes Friday blues at the Stanhope House and news of a legendary concert Saturday.

Here's what you need to know for Friday.

  • The New Jersey Education Assocation Teachers' Convention continues Friday. Yes, parents and guardians, that means you have the little darlings to yourself again. Jefferson Township Public Schools reopen Monday.
  • The Jefferson Township Public Library presents a number of events scheduled for the school closing. Be forewarned that many may have full registrations or waiting lists. At 11:30 a.m. the library offers "Setting the Turkeys Free," a story and crafts hour.  Click here to register online. At 1 p.m. bring the kids to the library for a free screening of the Pixar film "Monsters University" with Billy Crystal and John Goodman and the not-so-scary Mike and Sully. Registration is not required for this event. Talk your child nine years and older into trying their hand at  crafting with a loom. A Rainbow Loom Art Class takes place from 3-4:30 p.m. Click here to register. The library is located at 1031 Weldon Road.
  • If you love good blues music, you'll enjoy this: On its Roadhouse Stage, the Stanhope House presents its biweekly R&B Revue. The show this Friday features The Bad Hands and there's no cover charge for this 18+ show. Doors open at 6 p.m.; music starts at 8. There is a 7 p.m. showtime in the Crossfire Lounge, where an $8 cover gets you live music all night with Low Life, Resolute, Bare Your teeth, Foul Mouth, Head Check and a reunion show of the group Witness. Rawk on. And—can you believe it?—rock and blues legend Johnny Winter plays the Stanhope House Saturday. Tickets are $45 online, $50 the day of the show. VIP Seating is already sold out. The Stahope House is at 45 Main Street. For more info, call 973-347-7777.
