After 6+ Weeks Of Detours And Congestion, Temporary Bridge Opens On NJ Highway
NJDOT fully closed the southbound bridge on June 4 due to structural concerns, and traffic is now moving again on southbound Route 15.

JEFFERSON, NJ — Traffic was getting back to normal by Monday morning in Jefferson Township, six weeks after an abrupt bridge closure on Route 15 South created headaches for residents, businesses, and commuters.
On Sunday, Jefferson Mayor Eric Wilsusen and the New Jersey Department of Transportation announced that a temporary bridge had been completed over a narrow stretch of the Rockaway River, allowing drivers to take their usual southbound routes.
Two lanes of traffic have been restored, as the transportation department continues a larger project to completely replace the 124-year-old bridge that was deemed structurally unsafe on June 4. The bridge is open to all traffic, and state crews will begin removing the signs, traffic signals, and road paint along the detour route.

The closure diverted drivers onto other township roads or forced them to take other routes, while businesses below Edison Road on Route 15 South saw a decline in customers.
The temporary crossing was finished a week ahead of schedule, and Wilsusen expressed his thanks to the bridge contractor and NJDOT for the timely completion.

"This emergency project was indeed a cooperative effort, and I thank everyone for their constant communication with my staff and me," he said in a statement. "I also need to thank our township residents and businesses affected by the shutdown for their patience. I am sure everyone is looking forward to everything getting back to normal!"
