Third Break in a Week Forces Water Shutdown in Lake Shawnee

Workers laying 100 feet of new pipe.

The third water main break in a week on West Shawnee Trail in Lake Shawnee forced Jefferson Township to turn off the water to homes in part of the lake community on Monday.

β€œThe main line on West Shawnee Trail is so deteriorated that every time they make one repair another piece breaks,” said Jefferson Township Russell Felter. β€œSo the water department is replacing about 100 feet of line.”

According to Jessica Krieger of the township’s municipal utilities department, the repairs should be completed by Tuesday or Wednesday.

β€œIf the workers have any problems with the digging, it may take a little longer, but we’re hoping to have the work done in the next day,” Krieger said. β€œAs of Monday, the water is shut off.Β  Even after the work day is over, residents may experience sporadic water loss until the repairs are complete.”

Krieger also said that the quality of the water is fine, and residents will not need to boil water.
