Arson Task Force Probing Jersey City Fire That Injured 3: Prosecutor

The county arson squad is investigating a fire that injured 2 residents and a firefighter. Prosecutors gave an update on their condition.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A fire that injured two civilians and one firefighter in Jersey City last Wednesday is being probed by the county's arson squad, prosecutors said.

The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said that just before 6 a.m. on Wednesday, the Jersey City Fire Department was notified of a fire at 274 Monticello Ave. They found heavy smoke in the first floor hallway and fire in the basement.

They also found a 70-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man with injuries from the fire.

The pair were taken by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center, then transferred to Jacobi Medical Center in New York City for additional treatment, prosecutors said.

Both victims are in stable condition, prosecutors said.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated at Jersey City Medical Center.

The fire originated in the basement and is not considered suspicious at this time, prosecutors said.

Thirty-three residents were displaced as a result of the fire, they said.
