Man Arrested In Connection To Hit-And-Run Crash In Hudson County

A 32-year-old woman was seriously injured.

UNION CITY, NJ — A 56-year-old man was arrested on Dec. 23 in connection with a Union City hit-and-run crash from February, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said.

Carlos Mejia, of Union City, is charged with the following:

  • Aggravated assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(1)
  • Knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash resulting in serious bodily injury in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.1
  • Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (vehicle) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(2)
  • Endangering an injured victim in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.2a
  • Aggravated assault (domestic violence) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12 -1b(12)
  • Assault by auto in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1c(1)
  • Obstruction in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:29-1a

He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office and taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility to wait for his first court appearance.

At around 9 p.m. on Feb. 22, Union City Police responded to a report of a person who was hit by a car along 17th Street near Bergeline Avenue.

Officers found a 32-year-old woman from Union City who was hit and seriously injured, authorities said.

The driver left and was later identified as Mejia. He was driving a Ford E450 at the time of the crash.
