Fundraiser For Slain Family In Jersey City Aims To Bring Mom, 2 Kids Home

After a mom and her kids, 5 and 9, were stabbed to death in Jersey City, a relative started a fundraiser to bring their bodies home.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — After a woman and her two children were stabbed to death in their Jersey City apartment early Thursday morning — allegedly by her ex-boyfriend — a relative has started a fundraiser to bring their bodies to their native country for burial.

Napoleon Romero-Anduray, 31, was charged Thursday in the deaths of Luisa Urbano, 31, and her children Juan Martin Urbano, 9, and Diana Ramirez, 5, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said.

The Jersey City police responded shortly before 12:30 a.m. of a stabbing at 272 Hutton Ave., prosecutors said.

Reports said that Urbano had broken up with Romero-Anduray, and the children were not his.

A fundraiser for her, "Help Us with the Funeral and Repatriation of My Niece and Her Children," had raised $21,000 by Friday afternoon.

It says, "Hello, my name is Alejandra, and I am raising funds to cover the funeral expenses and the repatriation of my niece and her two children.

"In the early hours of January 30, 2025, her ex-partner broke into her apartment and took the lives of all three. This unimaginable tragedy has left our family devastated. We are from Colombia, and we need to bring them back home so their loved ones can say their final goodbyes."

Suspect Hospitalized

Meanwhile, Romero-Anduray is being treated at Jersey City Medical Center, officials said. Mayor Steve Fulop said Thursday that he was found with self-inflicted stab wounds.

Fulop wrote in a message on Thursday, “This was a terrible triple homicide that occurred last night related to domestic violence. Woman and two children aged 5 and 9 deceased and then the male actor tried to stab himself. The man is in custody right now. We have chaplains and social workers in the neighborhood to work with family and neighbors.”

The family lived on the western slope of Jersey City Heights, up the hill from Hoboken.
