Man Dies After Being Shot In Jersey City On Sunday: Prosecutor

Hudson County prosecutors are looking for a suspect in the shooting of a man in Jersey City on Sunday night.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A 34-year-old man died early Monday morning after being shot on Jersey City's west side on Sunday night, prosecutors said.

Police found Dushawn Bell, 34, of Elizabeth with gunshot wounds on Fairview Avenue, between John F. Kennedy Blvd. and West Side Avenue, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said.

Bell was taken to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 3:40 a.m. on Monday, prosecutors said.

Hours before he was shot, he posted on his social media page, "Happy Birthday, Princess...Daddy Loves you."

"RIP," wrote a commenter.

Last week, the city of Jersey City had announced record low homicide statistics for the year, saying there were only six so far in 2024. The previous year, there were 11, the city said.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating and no arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon, they said.
