NJ School Guard Charged With Sex Crimes Involving Kids: Police

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A North Jersey school security guard was charged with sex crimes involving two children, authorities said.

Freddy Salas, 60, of Bayonne, was arrested Monday on charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault by contact and endangering the welfare of a child, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.

Salas is employed as a security guard with the Jersey City Public Schools at Dr. Michael Conti School P.S. 5, Suarez said, adding that the alleged crimes did not involve any students or take place on district property.

Salas was arrested in the area of Merseles and Fourth Streets about a block away from the school and is being held at the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.

Additional information isn’t currently being released in order to protect the victims, Suarez added.
