NY Waterway Ferry Catches Fire With Passengers On It; Saved By 'Frank Sinatra'

The "Frank Sinatra" ferry responded when a NY Waterway ferry with passengers on it caught fire Tuesday between Manhattan and Jersey City.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A NY Waterway ferry with 37 passengers on it caught fire in the Hudson River on during Tuesday evening rush hour, a company spokesperson said.

The ferry was en route from Manhattan to Jersey City.

After the blaze began, the passengers were safely transferred to the ferry Frank Sinatra, said Adam Pockriss. There were no injuries.

"The fire was in the engine room. It was extinguished within three minutes by the crew," he said.

The cause of the blaze is still being investigated, he said.

One New Jersey resident posted video of a rescue boat coming to the aid of the ferry.

The ferry was the Mychal Judge, named after a priest who was among the victims on 9/11/01. He was the chaplain for the New York City Fire Department.
