📰 News we're reading

1. More lanes, more traffic? Massive NJ Turnpike bridge plan ignites backlash (wpst.com) — A massive plan to rebuild and widen the Newark Bay Bridge could send more traffic and pollution into Jersey City neighborhoods, even after state officials scaled back some new lanes. Local lawmakers and advocates warn the added capacity may push more drivers through Jersey City and Hoboken toward the Holland Tunnel, while labor groups back the project for its jobs and port access benefits. Construction is slated to start in 2026, keeping this a key issue for local commuters.

2. Events for Monday, December 29th, Jersey City and Hoboken and Secaucus (riverviewobserver.net) — Looking for something to do in Jersey City today? Families can hit snowman-themed sensory play at Krayon Park, catch college basketball at NJCU, or skate at Newport Skates, while local art and holiday donation drives continue around the city and nearby Hoboken and Secaucus.

3. Rippey and Saint Peter's host Quinnipiac (wtop.com) — Saint Peter’s women’s basketball will host Quinnipiac in Jersey City on Monday at 3 p.m., coming off a strong win over Niagara. Local fans can watch standout De’Naya Rippey, who’s averaging nearly a double-double, as the Peacocks try to stay unbeaten in MAAC play against a high-scoring Bobcats squad.

4. Cabin fever hits NJ: diners to save your post-holiday week (nj1015.com) — If cabin fever is hitting you this week, one classic escape is a cozy booth at White Mana Diner right here in Jersey City. A statewide roundup of New Jersey diners highlights how spots like this offer hot soup, all-day breakfast, and endless coffee refills to ease you out of the post-holiday slump. It’s more about the winter diner vibe than any single location.
