Hudson County NJ Protestors Condemn ICE Killing In Minnesota: Photos (patch.com) — Jersey City residents joined vigils and rallies across North Jersey to protest the fatal shooting of Renee Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, with speakers urging locals to report ICE activity in their neighborhoods. Incoming Jersey City Mayor James Solomon and other officials appeared at the Jersey City rally, where crowds chanted against ICE and called for its removal from local communities.

Poddar to serve as Jersey City deputy mayor for housing & economic development (hudsoncountyview.com) — Jersey City Mayor-elect James Solomon has tapped Keshav Poddar as deputy mayor for housing and economic development, putting him in charge of coordinating affordable housing and job-creation policy across city agencies. Poddar, an attorney with federal and state experience, says he’ll focus on protecting residents from displacement and ensuring new development delivers truly affordable homes and opportunities in underserved Jersey City neighborhoods.

Governor Murphy Signs Law Advancing Kean–NJCU Merger, Transforming Higher Education in New Jersey (insidernj.com) — State leaders have approved the merger of New Jersey City University into Kean University, creating “Kean Jersey City” by summer 2026 and keeping a full-service campus in the city. Jersey City students are promised continued local access to public higher education, with expanded programs, research opportunities, and state funding to support the transition.

4. Light Rail Lot Users Ticketed Despite Promised Overnight Moratorium Delay (jcitytimes.com) — Drivers who park at the Liberty State Park light rail lot in Jersey City say they were ticketed overnight last week, despite being promised a short grace period before a new moratorium took effect. NJ Transit had announced that, starting January 1, overnight parking would be banned and initially only warning notices would be issued, leaving many local commuters and residents frustrated by the unexpected fines.

The Journal by Woods Bagot opens in Jersey City (archpaper.com) — A massive new residential complex called The Journal is now complete in Jersey City, bringing two 64-story towers, 1,723 rental units, and 40,000 square feet of retail near the Journal Square PATH station. The $1 billion project, developed by Kushner Companies, has drawn scrutiny over its EB-5 financing but is now one of the city’s tallest buildings and adds new public plaza space.
