Suspect In Jersey City Killing Caught In Florida, Charged With Murder

A man was arrested by U.S. marshals in Florida this week in connection with a fatal shooting in Jersey City last month.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A man has been arrested in Florida and charged in the fatal shooting of a Jersey City man last month, prosecutors said.

The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said that on Wednesday, the U.S. Marshals Service Florida Fugitive Task Force arrested Zafarri Francis, 26, of Jersey City.

Francis was charged with murder, weapons charges, and receiving stolen property, prosecutors said.

On Dec. 8, shortly after 11:20 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a shooting on Fairview Avenue between John F. Kennedy Boulevard and West Side Avenue, prosecutors said.

Police found Dushawn Bell, 34, of Elizabeth with apparent gunshot wounds. He was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 3:40 a.m. on Dec. 9.

Francis was arrested in Ocala, Fla. and is in Marion County Jail awaiting extradition to New Jersey, prosecutors said.
