Teen Charged With Murder In Fatal Shooting Of Jersey City Man

A teen has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of a man in Jersey City Friday, prosecutors said.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A 17-year-old boy was charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a Jersey City man Friday night.

The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office would not release the name of the teen, who was arrested in connection with the death of 20-year-old Rahmiere Morris.

The teen was arrested at a home on Garfield Avenue in Jersey City and also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon.

Prosecutors said that shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Friday, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a shooting in the area of Lembeck Avenue and Old Bergen Road.

Morris was found with an apparent gunshot wound to the torso. He was taken to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 9:35 p.m., prosecutors said.

No further information was released about the teen who was charged, as juvenile matters are confidential, prosecutors said.

On Saturday, Council President Joyce Watterman issued a statement saying that the community was reacting differently to Morris's shooting than to the beating of a man near the Exchange Place PATH train station the week before.
